4th & 5th grade does screen printing!

    Posted 03/14/2017

In February 2017, our 4th and 5th graders explored the connections between visual art and music with Mrs. Laz, our art teacher, and Mr. Berthelette, our music teacher. Our PTA graciously co-sponsored a partnership between a guest screen print artist, Nicky Alden, and our students. During her visits, Nicky helped students finalize their poster designs and shared how their drawings would be transformed into screen prints. Then, Nicky and her partner, Stu, brought the screens to the art room, and each student printed 3 copies of their design onto paper using colorful inks. All this was done in four 30-minute class periods!

All student posters will be on display on April 20 during the spring Specials Showcase (for 3rd-5th grade families). Students will share with their families the process of how they transformed their drawing into a screen print. More details about the Specials Showcase will be coming soon.

We’d like to give a very special thanks to the McKinley-Thatcher PTA, Think360 Arts, and Ink Lounge. What an amazing experience for our students to gain exposure to a fun and relevant art form!
