Laura Scott has been a part of the McKinley-Thatcher community for 17 years. She has taught single grades and multi-age classes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. She continues to have a strong passion for working with young children, and she is always learning from them!
She grew up in a small town in upstate New York. She drove to Colorado in a rusted, green Ford Pinto with a suitcase and her guitar to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. After graduating, she moved to the mountains and began her career as a special education teacher. When she started teaching for Denver Public Schools, she attended classes at night and earned her Masters degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
Laura has an adventurous spirit. She has climbed Long’s Peak, goes white water rafting, hikes, snowshoes, and has even tried skydiving. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys playing her guitar, writing songs, reading, cooking, and exploring Colorado!
