Michael Maul
Physical Education

Mr. Maul is our Physical Education teacher. This is his first year in DPS after working previously in Poudre Valley School District. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado where he received a B.S. in Sport and Exercise Science. His intense course of study at UNC prepared him to educate his students with the most current and up to date educational practices.

In high school, Mike was an avid baseball player, which continued into his college years. Growing up he enjoyed hanging out with my brothers; he has three older brothers and two younger brothers. His younger brothers along with multiple younger cousins are one of the main reasons he chose to be a teacher. He enjoyed being a positive role model that they could look up to and he enjoyed teaching them new skills playing in the yard. Another major factor in why he is a teacher today is from a high school baseball coach he had during his senior year. This coach was so invested into his players; he really wanted to provide the best opportunities for them. He taught Mike the value of hard work, dedication, focus, and many other life lessons. Mike hopes to instill the same values in his students now.

Mike is excited to be at McKinley-Thatcher Elementary School for many reasons. He is a Denver, Colorado native and he is thrilled to be serving the community that he grew up in. He is a proud graduate of Standley Lake High School in Jefferson County and was raised right here in Denver.  He looks forward to working closely with his colleagues and the community to provide our students the finest learning experiences and to develop a love for physical activity.
