Susie has been working with students and families in Denver Public Schools for the past twelve years. Right out of college, she joined Americorps and was placed at a non-profit organization that worked with twenty Denver Public schools in Northeast Denver. She loved working with elementary aged students so much that she stayed and worked for the same non-profit as the After-School Program coordinator in ten different DPS schools, supervising over 100 in staff including DPS teachers, paras, and teen interns. She also taught as an ESL teacher at Lowry Elementary in DPS, before deciding to take a break from teaching to stay at home for a couple of years with her first child. This will be her third year as the ESL teacher at Mckinley-Thatcher.
Susie graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. She completed her teaching program through the University of Colorado at Denver. She also earned a Master’s degree at UCD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Linguistic Diverse Education. Susie is very passionate about working with the group of diverse students that walk through her classroom door every year and she loves what she does.
