We are celebrating the first day of school (August 21) with a chalk art party on the playground from 7:30am-8:15am! Kids and grown-ups are welcome to join us for music, snacks, and lots of chalk! School staff and PTA representatives will be on-hand to give you a warm welcome to the 2017-18 school year and to answer any questions you might have.
We are also preparing for the solar eclipse on August 21. Please see below for more information.
All McKinley-Thatcher students will view the eclipse outside with certified safety glasses. Students will watch the eclipse from 11:35am-11:55am on Monday, August 21. Teachers will review eclipse science and safety facts beforehand and school staff will supervise children during the entire viewing event.
If you do not want your child to view the eclipse, please call us at (720) 424-5600 and let us know. Children who do not view the eclipse will remain in the cafeteria with school staff during the event.
If families would like to view the solar eclipse outside with us, they are invited to join us at school by 11:30am to prepare for the 11:47am eclipse. We are excited to offer 20 free viewing glasses to any families who would like to participate (our glasses will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so please plan ahead!).
Please read this short guide (English and español) for general eclipse information and watch this video on eclipse safety. Remember that you should not view the solar eclipse without certified viewing glasses – click here to find an online store to purchase certified glasses.
