Mr. Rust was born and raised in Arvada, Colorado before moving to Denver in high school. An avid adventurer, he’s hiked the Copper Canyon in Mexico and worked in Grand Teton National Park as well as traveled around Italy and India. He loved working with children as a substitute teacher and soccer coach before joining the McKinley-Thatcher team as a paraprofessional for the 2022/2023 school year.

Mr. Rust attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he received his Bachelor’s in Art and was assistant to the curator of the campus gallery. After graduating, he worked in Wyoming before returning to Colorado to work in an art gallery in Louisville. When the time came to further his education, he decided to get his Master’s in Elementary Education from Metropolitan State University of Denver instead of continuing in the art field. Since getting his teacher certification, he has worked with every grade level from kindergarten to seventh grade as a teacher before becoming the newest member of the McKInley-Thatcher family!
