You’re Invited: Back-to-School Night Is Next Week!

McKinley families are cordially invited to join us for our virtual Back-to-School Night (BtSN) on Thursday, September 9, 5:30pm to 6:30pm on Google Meet! BtSN is a great chance to learn about our math, literacy, and social-emotional learning curriculum with your children’s teachers. 

We are two holding different sessions during BtSN — the first from 5:30pm to 6:00pm and the second from 6:00pm to 6:30pm. Both sessions are the same, so families with multiple children can attend with multiple teachers! Keep an eye out for more information from your children’s teachers, including the Google Meet link you’ll use for BtSN. Teachers will share their BtSN presentations with families who aren’t able to attend. 

News from Our PTA!

The McKinley-Thatcher PTA is a dedicated group of families committed to supporting our staff and students and to ensuring that our children have opportunities within the school and community. They offer community-building events, classroom programs, school-wide assemblies, and financial support for our school. For more information about our PTA, you can visit their page on our website.

Join our PTA’s email list to meet other families and get connected to our community! PTA uses their contact list to keep you informed of PTA events and ways you can help our school. Joining the mailing list is free, and families who do have a chance to win a $25 Target gift card! One gift card will be given to a randomly selected NEW family to the list and one will be given to a randomly selected RETURNING family to the list!

And, mark your calendars for our PTA meet-and-greet breakfast meeting for grown-ups at 7:35am on Tuesday, September 21! We’ll share more information about this event soon. 

Special Reminder for 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Girls:
Join Girls on the Run!

We’re so happy that we’re able to offer our Girls on the Run (GOTR) running club for 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade girls again this fall! GOTR will meet from 2:30pm to 3:45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 14 to November 11. If you haven’t had the chance yet, visit the GOTR website for more information and to get registered!

In Other News… 

  • No School Days in September: we have NO SCHOOL on this Monday, 9/6 (Labor Day), Friday, 9/24 (McKinley Teacher Planning Day), or Monday, 9/27 (DPS Teacher Planning Day). Please add these dates to your calendar!
  • Donation requests: our main office is in need of the following items. Donations are appreciated and may be dropped off at our front doors!
    • Kleenex
    • Disinfecting wipes
    • New, gender-neutral backpacks
    • New, gender-neutral reusable water bottles
  • We are also in need of spare children’s clothing for our school clinic! We are especially looking for the following items.
    • Underwear in all sizes (particularly for kids ages 4-7)
    • Shorts, pants, and shirts for boys in all sizes (especially gym shorts & sweatpants)
