Dear McKinley-Thatcher families and community —
We are wrapping up another wonderful year of learning and growing at McT! We want to extend a HUGE thank-you to our families for your support and encouragement, for cheering us on when we didn’t know if we would make it, and for the joy of journeying through this year with you and your children! Everything you do for our staff helps us to serve your children the best we can. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you to all of the families and community members who participated in our annual school auction! We raised over $27,000 to support staffing, teacher professional development, opportunities for student enrichment, and more! A very special thank-you goes to Katie Millard and Liz Smith, PTA volunteers who worked tirelessly to pull together all the moving pieces of the auction, including soliciting donations, organizing logistics, creating a more inclusive celebration, advertising the event, and coordinating all the volunteers. Thank you, Katie and Liz, for your selfless service to McT!
We have a few staff transitions this year. We are so sad that these staff members are leaving the McT community and we wish them the best of luck in their new adventures!
McKinley will be operating on the same bell schedule next year! School will start at 7:30am and end at 2:30pm. The first day of school for the 2022-2023 school year is Monday, August 22. Mark your calendars for our First Day Celebration at 7:15am on August 22, as well as our Open House event on Thursday, August 18 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm! Your new teachers can’t wait to meet you!
Our Discovery Link (DL) program is offering AFTER-school care next year for ECE-5th grade students. Afternoon care will operate from 2:30pm to 6:00pm. DL is also hoping to offer BEFORE-school care FOR K-5th GRADE ONLY (not ECE) from 6:30am to 7:30am, but will only be able to do so if we have 15 or more children signed up. For more information, and to register, please visit the Discovery Link website.
We encourage you to get your children off of their screens and outside this summer, and to help them keep reading and writing over the break. Here are some great summer opportunities to check out.
Thank you,
Sonia Geerdes, Principal
Courtney Waring, Principal Resident
