K-5th Grade Field Day Is Friday, May 19!

Our K-5th grade Field Day is Friday, May 19 from 8:00am to 10:00am on our playground and field. Families are invited to join us for our Field Day activities, either as a spectator or as a volunteer!

Please note that Field Day visitors must check in at the main office at 8:00am, then meet their child’s class on the field. Due to space limitations, visitors will not be allowed in classrooms. 

We Need YOUR Help to Make Field Day a Success! 

Field Day volunteer shifts run from 7:30am to 10:15am on Friday, May 19. Volunteers can sign up to run a specific Field Day activity station or to provide general help as a floater. Visit our SignUpGenius to sign up and contact Mr. J, our PE teacher, at Ronald_Joutras@dpsk12.net for more information! Volunteers should check in at the main office at 7:30am in order to help with setup. 

K-5th Grade: Summer Chromebook Check-Out Information

DPS students have the opportunity to check out a school Chromebook and charger for use over the summer. This includes McKinley-Thatcher students in grades K-5th who are returning to a DPS school for the 2023-2024 school year.

If you are interested in this option for your student, a parent or guardian must complete the Chromebook Summer Check-Out survey by 4:00pm on Friday, May 19. Students who check out a Chromebook for the summer must bring the same Chromebook and charger to their DPS school at the start of next school year. Families can find additional resources and information regarding summer Chromebook check-out here.

If you choose to check out a summer Chromebook for your student, you will receive a separate email from McKinley-Thatcher in late May with instructions for picking up the Chromebook and charger at the end of the school year. 

If you do not want your student to check out a Chromebook and charger for the summer, no action is required on your part. During the last week of school, McKinley-Thatcher staff will collect Chromebooks and chargers from all students who do not sign up to take one home.

In Other News!

  • REMINDER: Family Fitness & Fishing Day with Mr. J is TOMORROW! From 11:00am to 1:00pm, join us for fishing/bike/scooter activities at Wash Park. We will meet on the north side of Wash Park at Smith Lake. Students may bring their fishing pole, bike, scooter, football, skateboard, water bottles, healthy snack, etc. Denver Parks and Rec will have fishing poles for you to use, too!

  • REMINDER: we are working towards the goal of 95% attendance for all students during the month of May! There are 14 days of school left…ANY student who misses only 1 day of school (or 0 days) in May will participate in a DONUT PARTY on Wednesday, May 31. We can’t wait to see you at school every day this month!

  • Mark your calendars! 
    • We have NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. 
    • ECE ONLY: Last Day of School for ECE – Thursday, June 1 (half-day with dismissal after continuation)
    • Last Day of School for K-5th Grade – Friday, June 2 (half-day with dismissal at 12:00pm)
