You’re Invited:
International Night at McKinley Is Thursday, 4/18!
McKinley-Thatcher’s International Night is Thursday, April 18 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in our cafeteria and gym.
International Night is an opportunity for McKinley families to come together to celebrate the many beautiful cultural heritages that make up our community. Enjoy homemade food, fun performances, and browse our diverse and multilingual book fair while you’re here! All are welcome! No need to RSVP.
Families are invited to:
- Bring a dish that is important to your family to share at our potluck dinner.
- To bring a dish, please complete this form (available in English, Spanish, & Vietnamese) or this form (available in Arabic) by Friday, April 12.
- Please note that bringing a dish is optional.
- Families are invited to join us for dinner whether or not they bring a dish!
- Dress in clothes that reflect your family’s heritage, if you want!
- Browse our book fair with Second Star to the Right in our lobby from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.
- See a martial arts demonstration on our stage at 5:00pm.
- Watch a lion dance performance in our gym at 6:00pm.
Remember that culture isn’t just from foreign countries! Bring a dish that is important to your family, no matter where you’re from.
Volunteer For International Night!
We need family volunteers to help make International Night a success! We’re especially looking for adults who speak Spanish or Arabic. If you’re available for a one-hour time commitment on the evening of Thursday, April 18, please sign up here!
3rd-5th Grade Families: CMAS Testing Begins Soon!
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be participating in our annual Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) testing during the month of April. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will each take math and literacy tests. Our 5th graders will also complete additional science testing.
CMAS Testing Schedule
- CMAS Science Testing (5th grade only): Wednesday, April 10; Thursday, April 11; Friday, April 12 (NEXT WEEK!!)
- CMAS Literacy Testing (3rd-5th grade): Monday, April 15; Tuesday, April 16; Wednesday, April 17
- CMAS Math Testing (3rd-5th grade): Monday, April 22; Tuesday, April 23; Wednesday, April 24

Other School News
- During the month of April, we’re celebrating our fourth school value, lead by example!
- Mark your calendars: we have NO SCHOOL on Friday, April 19. This is a DPS staff planning day.
- Save-the-Date: we are excited to host a QPR Gatekeeper Training for McKinley and four neighboring schools on Monday, April 22 from 4:45pm to 6:15pm. This innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training is designed to teach participants the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.
