TOMORROW: Fishing Day with Mr. J at Wash Park!
Join Mr. J, our PE teacher, for Fishing Day at Wash Park TOMORROW (Saturday, May 18), from 11:00am to 1:00pm! Meet Mr. J on the north side of Smith Lake – you’ll see park ranger tents. Kids can borrow a fishing pole or choose one to keep. Hope to see you there!
Help Us Make Field Day Great for Our Kids!
We need many volunteers to help run our Field Day activity stations! If you can help out from 8:00am to 11:00am on Friday, May 24, please sign up on our SignUpGenius here.
Field Day Event Information
Our Kindergarten through 5th Grade Field Day is Friday, May 24 from 9:00am to 11:00am on our playground and field. Families are invited to join us!
Please note that, this year, Field Day visitors do not need to sign in at the main office. Instead, families can head straight to the field at 9:00am to meet their children’s classes! Due to space limitations, visitors will not be allowed in classrooms. If you plan to take your child home after Field Day, you must check them out through the main office.

K-5th Grade Talent Show Auditions Close Sun., 5/19!
Just a reminder that we are accepting Talent Show audition videos from K-5th graders through Sunday, May 19. Submit audition videos here!
Talent Show Audition Guidelines
- Auditions will be reviewed based on preparedness of the act.
- Performers can sing, dance, rap, act out a skit, do a comedy routine, demonstrate a special skill or any other fun thing you can think of!
- Acts should be well-practiced, entertaining, age-appropriate, and around 2 minutes long.
- If your act includes music, please choose a song that is appropriate for school!
Spring BOGO Book Fair
Our Spring BOGO (Buy One, Get One Free) Book Fair runs in-person from Friday, May 24 to Friday, May 31 after school in our gym and art room. The fair is also open online here now through May 31!
In-Person Fair Schedule
- Friday, May 24: 9:00am-11:30am (playground during Field Day) & 2:30pm-4:30pm (gym)
- Tuesday, May 28: 2:30pm-4:30pm (gym)
- Wednesday, May 29: 2:30pm-6:00pm (art room)
- Thursday, May 30: 2:30pm-6:00pm (art room)
- Friday, May 31: 2:30pm-4:00pm (art room)
- To help keep our building secure, fair visitors may not enter or exit the fair through our building or main doors. Instead, please plan to access the fair through our alleyway doors — simply follow the book fair signs in the alley!
We Need Volunteers!

- News from Our School Nurse:
- REMINDER: we are holding our annual Vision, Hearing, & Dental Screening Day on Wednesday, May 22 during school hours for mandated grades (ECE, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 5th grade – not 4th grade). Please contact our school nurse, Ms. Jennifer Itlis, at (720) 424-5606 with any questions.
- Medication Pick-Up: it’s that time of year again! All medications stored at school must go! Please plan on picking up your student’s medication from the front office by 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 5. Colorado’s state guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child. Any medication NOT picked up by 1:00pm on June 5 will be destroyed.
- Please mark your calendars!
- We have NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
- ECE ONLY: Last Day of School for ECE – Tuesday, June 4
- K-5th Grade: Last Day of School for K-5th Grade – Wednesday, June 5
(half-day with dismissal at 11:30am)
- Please RSVP for PTA’s End of School Party on Wed., 6/5! Our school community is invited to join our PTA in celebrating another amazing year at McKinley-Thatcher!

Kids in 1st through 6th grade can earn a free book by reading and recording eight books using Barnes & Noble’s summer reading log (available here in English and here in Spanish)!
