Last Day of School Information for K-5th Grade Families: Wednesday, 6/5
Our LAST DAY OF SCHOOL for kindergarten through 5th grade students is Wednesday, June 5! This day is a HALF-DAY for students, meaning that school will end at 11:30am. Please make pick-up and childcare plans now for our half-day! Students will eat lunch before dismissal, and our school bus will take bus riders home at 11:30am.
ECE families, ECE’s last day of school is Tuesday, June 4!
2024-2025 School Year Calendar for McKinley-Thatcher
We are excited to share the 2024-2025 school year calendar for McKinley-Thatcher! Please click here to see our calendar in English. We will share translated versions of the calendar with families in August 2024.
Please note that our calendar is specific to our school. It includes four additional no school days for McKinley students, as well as dates for several school events!

Reminder from Nurse Jen: It’s Time for Medication Pick-Up!
If you have any medication for your student at school, please plan on picking it up no later than 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 5. To pick up medications, come to the front office and the school nurse will meet you to sign them out. Colorado’s state guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child. Any medication not picked up by 1:00pm on June 5 will be destroyed, per DPS policy.

- WHEN: Wednesday, June 5 (our last day of school!), 11:30am-3:00pm
- WHERE: McKinley playground & field
- WHY: food, fun, & activities including an inflatable obstacle course, a visit from the Denver Fire Station 16 fire truck, pizza, snow cones, snacks, and drinks.

The McKinley-Thatcher Garden Needs Your Help!
McKinley-Thatcher and the South High School Herbology Club are looking for volunteers to help with our school garden this summer. We need people who can sign up for a week to check on the garden at least once during that week. The garden check should only take 30 minutes and can happen any time during the week that you’re available.
Tasks for the Garden Check Are:
- Refill the irrigation tank.
- Check to make sure the irrigation lines are still connected.
- Check soil to make sure it’s getting water.
- Harvest any vegetables or herbs that are ready.
- Tie up any viney plants to cages (ie: tomatoes).
- Report any pest infections to Liza (McT Mom) or Jordan (South HS liaison).
Liza and Kyle, McKinley’s school garden volunteer coordinators, will be happy to meet you before or after school to review the tasks and answer any questions. If you are interested, please sign up using this SignUpGenius. (Note – the sign-up slots are all on Mondays, but the garden check can happen any day of the week that you sign up.)

- Free Summer Healthcare for DPS Students! Denver Health’s School Based Health Centers will continue to see DPS students and their siblings for free at certain locations during the summer. The clinics offer free medical and dental care, run by Denver Health Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. For more information, check out their summer flyer here.
- NEW this year, there will be NO summer Chromebook checkout for DPS students. In order to ensure DPS is prepared for students to have fully functional Chromebooks at the start of next school year, no students may check out a Chromebook during summer break. For full details, please see the district-wide communications sent to families in early May.

Pearl St.)! Find community with fellow picture book fanatics, refine your writing, and learn about how to pitch and market your book. June 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
