McKinley-Thatcher Garden Club: Spring 2025 Work Day Schedule

We are excited to share that our school garden club is hosting several spring garden work days, and that all families are invited to join! Gardening experience is not required! Please click here to see our garden work day calendar.

All garden work days are held in our school garden on the playground. Volunteers do not need to sign up ahead of time – just show up if / when you can! Kids are welcome to play on the playground or help out in the garden. If you have questions, please contact our school garden coordinator, Liza, at Liza@potlikkerbrooklyn.com. 

Please note: garden work days are WEATHER DEPENDENT and will be cancelled in the event of snow or heavy rain.

• Mark your calendars: we have NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 2. This is a McKinley staff planning day!
  
  
• Volunteer with Our Free Book Friday Giveaways! We are looking for help with our Free Book Friday giveaways on most Fridays from now through May. During Free Book Friday, we hand out books from our donation boxes for FREE to our students after school, and we need volunteers to make this possible! If you’d like to assist, please sign up here.
  
  
• Help Our PTA Stock the Lounge! Our PTA’s Wellness Committee is asking for your help to stock the McKinley staff lounge with goodies. The Wellness Committee created an Amazon wish list here that has all of our staff’s favorite foods. Please take a look and make a purchase if you are able to. The items will be set up in the staff lounge as they arrive! Thank you!

Community News & Resources

• Get ready for summer fun with the MY Denver Card! Denver children ages 5 to 18 can sign up for their free MY Denver Card through the City of Denver website here. The MY Denver Card gives kids free access to city recreation centers, swimming  pools, and various cultural facilities around the city, including the Denver Zoo!
  
  
• Denver Public Library’s ideaLABs are makerspaces – free community spaces to make things! Visiting an ideaLAB is completely free and a great way to spend a few hours crafting! Come with ideas already in mind, or just go and work with ideaLAB staff to create something unexpected. All items that you create, you get to take home as well!
