3rd-5th Grade Families: You’re Invited to Our May 14 Showcase!

Our 3rd through 5th grade families are cordially invited to our 3rd – 5th Grade Student Learning Showcase on Wednesday, May 14 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM! During our showcase event, students will present key aspects of their learning from their grade level classes and their STEM, art, and drama classes to their families.

Event Details

  • Who: 3rd, 4th grade, and 5th grade students and their families.
  • What: Students will present key aspects of their learning to their families.
  • When: Wednesday, May 14, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
    • Students should arrive in time for their grade level performance (see below). Families can visit classrooms before and after performances!
  • Where: Performances are in the cafeteria, while other work is displayed in your child’s homeroom classroom.
  • Why: Join us to celebrate our students and their incredible success this year!
  • How: No RSVP is required, but students cannot attend alone, so please come with your children!

Drama Performances

Each grade level will give a short musical or dramatic performance with Ms. Katherine, our drama teacher. All performances will be held in the cafeteria. Students should arrive in time for their grade level performance (see below!).

  • 5th grade: 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM (students line up at 4:00 PM)
  • 3rd grade: 4:20 PM to 4:35 PM (students line up at 4:15 PM)
  • 4th grade: 4:45 PM to 5:30 PM (students line up at 4:40 PM)
    • PLEASE NOTE: the 4th grade performance is 45 minutes long in order to allow all students to perform their Shakespeare skits!

Spring BOGO Book Fair: Wednesday, 5/14 to Friday, 5/16

Our Spring BOGO (Buy One, Get One Free) Book Fair is running from Wednesday, May 14 to Friday, May 16 after school in our art room! To help keep our building secure, fair visitors may not enter or exit the fair through our building or main doors. Instead, please plan to access the fair through our alleyway doors — simply follow the book fair signs in the alley!

K-5th Grade Talent Show Auditions Are Open!

Our annual K-5th Grade Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, May 30, and our audition window is open now through Monday, May 19! Students in kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to audition. Performers can sing, dance, act, do a comedy routine, share a special skill, or another fun act they create! Acts should be well-practiced, entertaining, age-appropriate, and around two minutes long.

Submit An Audition Video

Performers should please record an audition video of their act and email to Ms. Katherine, our drama teacher, at Katherine_Nelson@dpsk12.net by Monday, May 19.

  • PTA May Restaurant Fundraiser: families are invited to enjoy our PTA’s restaurant fundraiser at Sweet Cow Ice Cream’s Platt Park location (1882 S. Pearl St .) on Tuesday, May 13! Mention McKinley-Thatcher at the register in order to have a portion of your order total donated back to our school!
  • Volunteer With Our First Ever McKinley Career Day! On Friday, May 16, McT will be hosting its first career fair for all K-5 students. We would love to extend an invite to any McKinley parents or other caregivers who would like to come and represent their profession. For more details, check out our May 9 ClassDojo post or email our school counselor, Mr. Alex Clark, at Alexander_Clark@dpsk12.net!

  • Mark Your Calendars: we have NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. We’ll see you again on Tuesday, May 27!
