REMINDER:
K-2nd Grade Student Learning Showcase Is NEXT WEEK!
Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade families, just a reminder that our K – 2nd Grade Student Learning Showcase is next Wednesday, March 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.!
Event Details
- Who: Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students and their families.
- What: Students will present key aspects of their learning to their families.
- When: Wednesday, March 12, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Students should arrive in time for their grade level performance (see below). Families can visit classrooms before and after performances!
- Where: Performances are in the cafeteria, while other work is displayed in your child’s homeroom classroom.
- Why: Join us to celebrate our students and their incredible success this year!
- How: No RSVP is required, but students cannot attend alone, so please come with your children!
Musical Performances
Each grade level will give a short musical performance with Ms. Katherine, our drama teacher. All performances will be held in the cafeteria. Students should please arrive in time for their grade level performance.
- Kindergarten: 4:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- 1st grade: 4:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- 2nd grade: 5:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Join The Fun — Volunteer For The McKinley-Thatcher Auction!
Our Annual PTA Auction is coming up on May 9, 2025, and we need your help to make it a success! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we rely on amazing volunteers like you to bring it all together.
We’re Looking For Volunteers To Help With:
- Contacting local businesses for items or services to donate
- Auction item coordination
- Event setup and breakdown
- Registration and check-in
- And more!
Volunteering is a great way to meet other families and make a direct impact on our school community. Whether you can give a few hours or the whole evening, we appreciate your support!

McKinley-Thatcher Elementary Yearbook – We Need Your Help!
Do you have photos from school events that we can include in the yearbook? We’d love to include your photo submissions so we have the best chance at representing the whole school community! We’re looking for pictures of specials, library time, staff appreciation, snow days, field trips, Movie Night, Glow Dance, International Night, and more!
Parents, guardians, caregivers, students, staff – please submit photos here! If you already have a Shutterfly account, you might have to log in with that account, or try using a different email address altogether.
If you get prompted for a passcode for our school, it’s MKT-YEARBOOK-25.

Other School News
- Save-the-Date: our annual International Night will be Friday, April 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Families are invited to bring a dish, enjoy our potluck, and catch a lucky orange from the Dragon Dance performance at 6:00 p.m. We’ll share more event information soon!
- Mark your calendars: we have NO SCHOOL from Monday, March 24 to Tuesday, April 1. This is our Spring Break. School will resume on Wednesday, April 2!
- In Case You Missed It: here’s our March 2025 lunch menu in English, Arabic, Dari, Spanish, and Vietnamese!
- Our school health office is in need of donations of gently used clothing, especially gender-neutral sweatpants/joggers. We’re specifically looking for: pants & shorts with stretchy waistbands (sizes 4 to 12); shirts (sizes 6 to 12); NEW underwear for boys & girls. Donations can be dropped off in our main office during school hours. Thank you!
- Volunteer with Our Free Book Friday Giveaways! We are looking for help with our Free Book Friday giveaways on most Fridays from now through May. During Free Book Friday, we hand out books from our donation boxes for FREE to our students after school, and we need volunteers to make this possible! If you’d like to assist, please sign up here.
- Help Our PTA Stock the Lounge! Our PTA’s Wellness Committee is asking for your help to stock the McKinley staff lounge with goodies. The Wellness Committee created an Amazon wish list here that has all of our staff’s favorite foods. Please take a look and make a purchase if you are able to. The items will be set up in the staff lounge as they arrive! Thank you!
