Families with Students Going into ECE, Kindergarten, or 6th Grade Next Year:
Please complete a SchoolChoice Application by February 15, 2022!

SchoolChoice is the Denver Public Schools program designed to ensure all students have access to quality schools. Families with students going into ECE, kindergarten, 6th grade, or 9th grade next year should complete a SchoolChoice application to sign up for a space at their preferred school. Current families with students going into 1st through 5th grade do not need to complete an application if you are returning to McKinley.

Round One of the 2022-2023 SchoolChoice program runs from today, January 14, 2022 to February 15, 2022. Applications are due by 4:00pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.  

Please complete a 2022-2023 SchoolChoice application if your student is going into ECE-4, kindergarten, or 6th grade next school year. For more information, visit our McKinley SchoolChoice info page here or check out the district’s Choice website!

News from Ms. Pocernich:
Winter Break Reading Challenge & Our School Library

We had more than 55 students participate in our Winter Break Reading Challenge! It was great to see how much reading happened over vacation. The winners of the challenge were drawn at random – you can see them here! 

Families can also check out some fun statistics and information about the library from the first semester. We are very proud of our students and all of the great, varied reading choices they have made and hope it will continue in the second semester.

To our families: thank you for all your support, and an extra big thanks for helping students to get their library books back on time. It is a great way to live our school value of “being kind and considerate!”

Donation Request from Our Main Office

Our main office is currently in need of water bottles (both disposable and reusable), disposable cups (recyclable preferred, if possible), and children’s disposable masks. If your family is able to help out with any of these items, donations are gladly accepted at our front door. Thank you!

• REMINDER: we have NO SCHOOL today, Friday, January 14 or Monday, January 17. Today is a McKinley Teacher Planning Day and January 17 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
  
  
• Please join our PTA at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 18 for a brief check-in with our board. The meeting will be hosted virtually — we’ll share the Zoom link via ClassDojo the day of! PTA will hold a more detailed meeting in February.
  
  
• Please join our Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for our January meeting on Tuesday, January 25! We’ll be meeting virtually on Google Meet to discuss our 2022-2023 school budget. Our meeting link will be posted on ClassDojo the day of!
  
  
• 3rd, 4th, & 5th Girls: Girls on the Run (GotR) is returning this semester! The spring season starts the second week of March and club/registration information will be shared in the next couple of weeks. Remember, financial assistance is available for GotR registration fees!
