Dear McKinley-Thatcher families,
We’re writing to share a few reminders for our first day of school and some updates for this school year. If you have questions or need more details about this information, please call us at (720) 424-5600, email us at McKinley_Thatcher@dpsk12.org, or stop by our main office next week! We are so excited to see you on Monday, August 22 for our first day of school!
Our families are invited to join us a bit early on our first day of school for a special welcome celebration! We’ll be on our playground at 7:15am with coffee and snacks from our PTA, selfie photo frames, and answers to all of your lingering questions! After our celebration, teachers will meet their students on the playground at 7:30am to walk inside.
Just a reminder that our ECE students will have a special schedule during the first week of school!
We are excited to announce that we’ll be offering after-school enrichments again this year! Enrichments are special after-school classes that families may register their kids for. Each enrichment has an associated cost and runs one day a week after school for several months.
New this year, DPS’s Department of Extended Learning is organizing most enrichments at McKinley-Thatcher. The registration window for our fall enrichment session is now open. For information on registering for enrichments and to see our enrichment options, visit our website here! Registration closes on Tuesday, September 6 at 6:00pm.
A Special Note for 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade Families:
We are excited to bring back our Girls on the Run program this year! As members of our Girls on the Run team, students will be inspired to a lifetime of self-respect and a healthy lifestyle through an innovative program that combines running with fun games and activities. To register for Girls on the Run, visit our website here!
Girls on the Run is an inclusive program in which the dignity of every participant is respected and all youth are safe. If a child identifies as a girl and the parent/guardian identifies the child as a girl, then the child is welcome to participate in Girls on the Run.
Due to increasing allergies and health concerns, food (including donuts and cupcakes!) are no longer allowed for birthday celebrations during school hours. Instead, teachers will plan a birthday celebration for your child in the classroom (such as picking a special book to read aloud). Thank you for your understanding!
Starting in August 2022, lunch meals will no longer be provided at no cost to all students. This means that families must complete a Meal Benefits Application in order to receive free or reduced-price school lunches. To complete your application, visit www.myschoolapps.com and follow the instructions on the website. You will need your student’s DPS ID number and, if you have one, your SNAP number. Please call our office at (720) 424-5600 or use the DPS ID Lookup Tool to find your student’s ID number.
If your student needs to pay for their school lunches, families may add money to their lunch account using the MySchoolBucks website. You may add money to your student’s lunch account in-person using cash or check in our cafeteria.
Please note that all DPS students may eat breakfast for free at school, regardless of free/reduced-price eligibility. Breakfast is served in our cafeteria from 7:15am to 7:25am before school. Students should plan to arrive around 7:15am in order to have time to eat breakfast.
If your student took home their Chromebook and charger for the summer, please get ready to bring both back to school on Monday, August 22. If the Chromebook or charger are missing or broken, please call our office at (720) 424-5600 to let us know. We will work with families to access the damage and replace devices during the first few weeks of school.
Please note that students with assigned Chromebooks at home must bring their device back to school; we will not be able to provide loaner devices as our extra Chromebooks are earmarked for our new students.
Thank you for your attention to these important reminders and updates!
